How to use pediatric urine collector?
1. It is very important to clean the baby’s genitals beforehand. Do a good wash with soap and water. If it is a male, removing the skin of the foreskin well back and in girls separating the labia majora and doing it from front to back.
2. Subsequently dry the area with sterile gauze.
3. Remove only the bottom part of the protective paper from the bag and spread the child’s legs apart to smooth out the skin folds.
4. Place the opening of the bag around the hole where you urinate, trying to get it to stick firmly:
5. For boys, put the entire penis in the bag.
For girls, place the bag over the two folds of skin on either side of the vagina,
Remove the rest of the protective paper and press well on the skin to fully stick it.
6. Put a diaper on the baby (over the bag).
7. Every half hour if the baby does not urinate, the bag is changed, because the risk of contamination of the sample increases. Remove the bag gently and repeat the entire cleaning operation again.
8. An active baby can displace the bag, so it may take more than one attempt to collect the sample.
9. After the baby has urinated, fold the bag so that the urine does not leak out.
It is not necessary to transfer the urine to a jar.
If the sample is not immediately taken to the laboratory, we have to store it in the refrigerator. Before we will have written on the container the name of the child, the time and the day of taking the sample.
